Meet the Girls

The mice you're about to meet are the latest in the reason Zen Mousery exists. I've kept girl mice since I was very young, and it is their quirky personalities and funny little antics that make me fall in love with these creatures more and more every day. Please note, the genotypes are mostly speculative. If you think you can correct me, please do! See the legend for explanations of prefixes and show classes.

Isis > View Details

Isis is from a local petshop, where she was purchased to "save" her from nasty conditions (I know, I know). She is a surpsisingly lovely girl, who never runs from being picked up and despite her piggy little eyes, is quite a pretty girl. She has turned into one of the latest trio of alphas, and is more and more confident and outgoing every day. She is a lovely mouse, and I am very glad I got her.

Nyuu > View Details

Nyuu is just gorgeous. A lovely little rex with a pretty face and great ears. She's soft and cuddly and sweet and gentle. Not too in-your-face but certainly not shy. A very nice girl that I am exceedingly fond of.

Willow > View Details

Although Willow is from a different branch of the Zen line (through Ciaran and Lugh, instead of Velvet and Gossamer), she follows in her family's footsteps as a gregarious, bossy chinchilla girl. There's one in every litter! She's one of the alphas of the cage and enjoys all aspects of mousey life with vigour - from running in the wheel to devouring food to escaping at playtime. She was named for Willow Rosenberg from Buffy, as her mother was called Drusilla.

Faith > View Details

Faith is Willow's calmer sister, a pretty girl who looks freakily like her father, Lugh - right down to the chubs! If the mood is quiet, she'll come around and climb on me and nibble at my fingers, but when the rest of the circus is going nuts, she'd rather sit back and wait for things to subside. She was named for the vampire slayer, Faith, from Buffy, as her mother was called Drusilla.

Moxy > View Details

Moxy was so-named because on her first days in the cage, the wouldn't let any of the girls boss her around! She is a bit of a shy girl around people, though she will come over and investigate and climb onto a proffered hand if things are calm enough.

GLaDOS > View Details

I bet you're wondering where on Earth I got that name from. Well, it's from a wonderful game called Portal. GLaDOS is a violent, insane and ultimately caring and motherly computer presence that has some of the funniest lines ever written for any sort of character. Why did I choose to name this sweet, innocent mouse after such a thing? Well, she's orange. And Portal is from a gameset called Orange Box. Ok, it's weak. But it's such a good character! Anyway, this GLaDOS is a lovely, confident, outgoing little girl who fits right into the Zen mouse family. She's often first out and about and always interested in me and the goings on. Hopefully she won't turn homicidal...

Winter > View Details

Winter follows after her grandmother, Selkie, in looks - she's a perfect double, except smaller. She's a lovely sweet girl, with not an ounce of mean in her. She gets along with everyone and likes her fair share of human-based attention too.

Armitage > View Details

Winter's sister, Armitage has the blackest, shiniest coat you'll ever see. We hope to breed her for this stunning coat when she's a little older. She's much like her sister, a lovely, sweet, quiet girl who is easy to get along with.

Luna > View Details

Luna is a little more highly-strung than most Zen mice, but is still a sweet girl, curious enough to come over and climb onto a hand if it's still for long enough! A beautiful blue tan girl, we hope her babies get her pretty face.

Paprika > View Details

Paprika is a stunner. Following after her mum, Willow, she has the same huge eyes and ears, perfect face-shape and an even better coat quality and ticking. We have high hopes of her doing extremely well in shows.

Clover > View Details

Clover, Paprika's sister, follows after Willow is more than looks - she's an absolute bossy-boots! Even at the tender age of 3 months old, she reckons she's taking over! The old alphas aren't too pleased with this, but Willow keeps her in plae if she gets a little out of hand. She's a beautiful, confident girl with mum's huge ears and lovely face.

Orly > View Details

Orly has a unique and beautiful face - a stubby nose, which we love, and an incredibly dark agouti, making her look very regal indeed. She is a bit of a nutter and will lead you on a merry chase if you let her, but as soon as you stop trying, she'll come over and climb on! Silly girl.

Maya > View Details

Maya joined the Zen team because of her uncanny resemblance to Nedra, who was a beloved girl from DogStar who died a few years ago. Also a similar colour to Freyja, who died quite recently, she serves to add her own sweet, calm and adorable personality to remind us of theirs.

Monkey > View Details

Monkey was spotted in a local pet shop for her striking markings and stunning blackness. I don't think she had been handled much, if at all, so it was hard work to get her to be friendly. But, her nature was outgoing and her nature irrepressible! (Get it? Haha!) In any case, she's still a complete nutter, but she'll let me pick her up without too much fuss, and loves leaping onto me for a good run around my arms. A beautiful girl.
